Accelerate is a story of triumph of the human spirit - coupled with a strong dose of BMX riding - brought to the screen by a core crew of filmmakers who have roots in dirt jumping and street riding that spans three decades. Currently, the film is undergoing post-production and is anticipated to be finished by fall 2011 and released to the public by summer 2012. Principal filming in Allentown, PA and Lehigh Valley region was completed in early November 2010.This teaser video was shot on Labor Day weekend 2009 as a camera test and as a way to generate buzz for the film. The actual trailer for the film will replace this clip soon.We appreciate the support of investors, company sponsors and the BMX community to accomplish making a movie that will be every bit of a cult classic as Rad was - yet different in story and feel, while staying legit in the eyes of hardcore riders around the world.

THE STORY

Synopsis
A passionate 26-year old BMX dirt jumper, Phineas Cooper, gets the chance of a lifetime to compete at the regional level to qualify for nationals. But his pursuit of triumph sours with a crash that knocks him out of commission. Determined to get back on track for the next round of competition, he undergoes physical therapy for a couple months.In the meantime, he is ordered by court to complete community service for many unpaid citations for street riding in the city. He is forced to work at a local youth center for at-risk teenage boys, and meets Jordin Riley, a beautiful humanitarian. To impress her, Phin decides to sign up for mentorship and handpicks one of the toughest boys named Blue Espinosa, a 14-year old whose mother is a drug addict, and whose father was gunned down.As Phin takes Blue under his wings, he and his friends lead him on adventures of riding dirt trails, big jumps and cityscapes. For the first time Blue experiences what it means to be accepted and to dream big. But his secret world of drug trafficking soon catches up with him, and even overtakes Phin by surprise who has unwittingly become involved and endangered in Blue's illegal activities. Just as his second chance at the pro level contest comes around, Phin learns that Blue is held hostage by a dangerous gang. Phin is forced to choose between his dream and the life of someone who betrayed him. Everything comes head to head, and becomes a race against time. Phin, our lead actor is played by Joel Moody, an Austin native who currently resides in Los Angeles. He was a sponsored rider, rode in the Warped Tour and performs most of his own stunts.Bill Allen ("Cru Jones" in Rad) is playing Phin's father. Our other cast includes up-and-coming talented actors, most of whom reside in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia and New York region.Riders appearing include Catty Woods locals like Dave King, Sam Dorward and Devin Albino. Others include Van Homan, Brian Foster, Pat "Big Daddy" Laughlin, Alex Landeros, Anthony Napolitan, the Animal Team - as well as a bunch of pros from around the world.

Eric Bugbee (Executive Producer / Director / Main Writer) first envisioned the idea of making a film incorporating freestyle BMX at Catty Woods while hanging out among local riders. A dirt rider himself since the age of 10, Eric combines his passion for riding with filmmaking.After graduating with a film degree from Penn State in 1999, he lived for a few years in Los Angeles working in the entertainment business. Among his colleagues for Accelerate include Kevyn Bashore (Co-writer / Production Designer) and Jill Bugbee (Producer / Production Manager), Matthew Roseman (Assistant Director / Editor), Joel Ivory (Director of Photography) and Ben Gaskell (2nd Unit DP / Ist AC).The sound and audio team consist of Josh Neal (Sound Miixer), Matthew Whitworth (Boomer) and Jesse Ehredt (Sound Designer).Other team members include associate producers Dave King and Manny & Pauline Ribau, Dylan Warren (Script Supervisor), Erik Knipe (Music Supervisor / Head PA), Amy Keller (Assistant Editor) and Stacy Beaty (Catering Manager).Several local college interns were also invaluable in helping make the production process a success.

Heroes of Dirt Pro BMX Competition

Held at Canal Park in Allentown, PA on October 23, 2010, we organized a legit BMX dirt contest inviting pros from all over the world to compete. Dave King of Dirt Sculpt Construction designed the intense and fun 16-pack course with the help of a few Catty Woods/PA crew.

Of the 45 riders who signed up, the big winner was Pat "Big Daddy" Laughlin, followed by Brian Foster, then Alex Landeros. The judges included Van Homan, Jay Lonergan and Nick Fetchko.

The contest was filmed as part of Accelerate's climax scene, and filming took place in between qualifying rounds and into the night. The riders were awesomely patient and the crowd was super in cooperating as extras.
